Arrival of the CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections) and “opportune” world events:

- Farewell Spit, New Zealand: Around 100 whales stranded at the Spit, on the northwest tip of the South Island, around midday on Monday, Jan 23rd. >Read more<

- Rescuers were pulling bodies from the debris of a landslide that struck mountainous central Papua New Guinea. The landslide carved a 1-mile (1.5 kilometer) trail of destruction across the remote landscape leaving roads to the villages cut off. >Read more<
